Fred Clayton
Cape Cod's own "Blues Man," Fred Clayton brings decades of global road experience — from Western Mass to 15 years gigging Paris — to stages all over the Cape. Expect blues, soul, R&B, jazz, and funk delivered with bass and vocals.
Born in Birmingham, Alabama in 1958, Fred Clayton moved to Boston at age 11 and studied at the Elma Lewis School of Fine Arts. He later lived in Western Massachusetts, where jazz luminaries Archie Shepp and Avery Sharpe became key influences. He then spent 15 years in Paris leading his international band through Europe and Africa. Settling on Cape Cod in 2005, Clayton became a fixture of the local scene — running a weekly Sunday blues jam at O'Shea's Olde Inne in West Dennis, organizing the annual Summer Sounds Concert Series at Aselton Park in Hyannis, and gigging regularly at venues from the Barley Neck Inn to Wellfleet's Pearl. His band blends blues, R&B, soul, funk, jazz, and gospel.
