What’s Up Cape is a local guide to Cape Cod — real locals, real picks. We care about your privacy the same way we’d want ours handled: collect as little as possible, be honest about it, and never sell you out. Here’s exactly what that means.
The short version
We collect very little. We use privacy-minded analytics to see which pages people like, and we keep your email if you sign up for our newsletter. We don’t sell your data — ever. You can unsubscribe or ask us to delete your info anytime at hello@whatsupcape.com.

Who we are
This policy covers the website at whatsupcape.com (“What’s Up Cape,” “we,” “us”). If you have any questions about it, email hello@whatsupcape.com.
What we collect
When you visit the site. Like nearly every website, our host keeps basic server logs (your IP address, browser type, and the pages you load) for security and to keep the site running. We also use Matomo, a privacy-focused analytics tool that runs on our own site — your data stays with us and isn’t sent to any third party — to understand which content is useful, for example, how many people read a restaurant guide or check the weekend events. This is about pages, not people; we’re not building a profile of you.
When you sign up for our newsletter. If you give us your email address to get the Cape Cod weekend brief, we use it to send you that newsletter — and nothing else. We deliver it through Mailchimp, a third-party email service, which stores your address so we can send the emails. Every newsletter has an unsubscribe link, and you can opt out anytime.
When you email us or submit something. If you email us, suggest a place, or send an event through our contact links, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to tell us. We use it only to reply and to consider what you sent. We don’t add you to the newsletter just because you emailed us.
How we use what we collect
- To run and improve the site and figure out what’s worth covering.
- To send you the newsletter, if you asked for it.
- To respond to your messages and review the places and events you send us.
- To keep the site secure and working.
That’s the whole list. We don’t use your information to advertise to you, and we don’t sell or rent it to anyone.
Cookies
Cookies are small files a website stores in your browser. We use a few: some are needed for the site to work, and our analytics may set one to tell repeat visits apart. Pages that pull in Google content (like maps or place details) can also set their own cookies. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, though some parts of the site may work less smoothly if you do.
Who we share it with
We don’t sell your data. We do rely on a few trusted services to operate, and they handle data only to provide their service to us:
- Our web host (WPMU DEV), which runs the site.
- Mailchimp, our email/newsletter service, which stores subscriber emails.
- Google, when we show maps or place information from Google Places.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect the site and our visitors.
Links and content from other places
We point you to lots of great spots — venue websites, ticket pages, Google listings, and more. Once you leave What’s Up Cape, that site’s privacy policy applies, not ours. We can’t control how other sites handle your information, so it’s worth a look when you land somewhere new.
Your choices
- Unsubscribe from the newsletter anytime using the link in any email.
- Ask us what we have about you, or ask us to delete it, by emailing hello@whatsupcape.com. We’ll take care of it.
- Adjust cookies and tracking in your browser settings.
Keeping your information
We keep your email for as long as you’re subscribed, and remove it after you unsubscribe (give it a little time to clear the system). Server logs and analytics are kept only as long as they’re useful for running the site, then they age out.
Children
What’s Up Cape is meant for a general audience and isn’t directed at children under 13. We don’t knowingly collect information from kids. If you think a child has sent us information, email us and we’ll remove it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we’ll update this page and move the effective date at the top. If it’s a big change, we’ll do our best to say so.
