Martha's Vineyard's most beloved blues quartet, Johnny Hoy & The Bluefish have been rocking dance floors across New England and beyond since 1991. Hoy's gravel-and-soul harp playing anchors a set list that roams freely through blues, R&B, rockabilly, and swing.
Formed in 1991 on Martha's Vineyard, Johnny Hoy & The Bluefish have spent more than three decades building a reputation as one of New England's hardest-working live acts — playing everything from island dive bars to international stages, including dates in South Africa and Europe. Frontman Johnny Hoy leads from behind a rack of harmonicas, delivering a baritone steeped in classic Chicago blues alongside guitarist Delanie Pickering, pianist Jeremy Berlin (a Vineyard fixture since 1993), and drummer Kevin Medeiros. The band's sound resists easy pigeonholing: blues and R&B form the backbone, but expect detours through rockabilly, swing, New Orleans funk, and cajun on any given night. Their catalogue includes releases on Tone Cool Records as well as self-produced albums. The Bluefish are no strangers to Cape Cod Beer, returning regularly to the Hyannis taproom for what always amounts to a full-throttle dance party.
